FLY Fusion Pentop Computer - Black (Only at Target) Customer Review: Fly fusion pentop computer (black version)
this pen is the fly fusion pentop computer, if you have heard of the gray one, it is the EXACT same thing, only a different color. (black)
The pen itself is truly quite remarkable, it knows what you’re writing, it reacts to what you write, it talks, the color of the light on the front of the pen tells you what it is doing, and so much more. You have to buy specially designed fly fusion notebooks for this pen, and it will not work with other paper. sure, it will still write, but all the features will not be of access. the notebooks are 7.99 each, and some say its a waste of money, but they are really quite thick, and last a long time. when you buy the pen, a notebook comes with it, but its a sampler version. (approximetly 1/3, perhaps 1/4 the size of an actual notebook) this sampler notebook is designed for the use of just testing it out. On the inside cover of the notebook, their is a control panel (where you can adjust the volume, turn the recording feature on or off, add reminders, set the date/time, set a scheduler, play Mp3’s, access the menu, and SO much more. on the back inside cover of the notebook is the music studio. it only lets you play with the basics (the piano/keyboard, the beats, and some other features) if you buy the music studio pro ($6-10) you can use all the features (which is quite a bit more). with that, you can record your music, save what you play (up to 4 songs) and various other fun things. On the notebook paper itself, are a series of tiny dots scattered across the page, thousands of them, to read what you are writing. it tracks your motion on the page, and reacts to it. if you record what you write, you simply go to the cover of the notebook, click “record ON” and write. when you’re done, go back, and click “record OFF”. you can do this to front and back of the notebook page, and if you write a 1/2 page (recording it) and then press record off, and then later come back, and write on the rest of the page (recording it) it will save into the computer as two different documents. so when you’re done recording (you can record up to about 20 documents (way more if you buy the additional fly fusion memory cartridge) before uploading them onto the computer. when you do, you simply attach the pen to the USB cord, plug it into your PC (no mac support) (must be windows ‘98 or higher, windows XP is the best for it, and vista works too) when it is plugged in, it will automatically download whatever you wrote to your computer. you can see it digitized how you wrote it (with your handwriting) you can email it like that, or you can turn it into text (wordpad works!, you dont need to have microsoft word/office or anything!) and you can save it, email it, blog it, whatever! if you write in cursive, it still works, but you need to write neater. otherwise, it is pretty flexible for your penmanship. if you connect your letters, you need to stop doing that (a bad habit of mine) otherwise it will get all messed up. Since the fly fusion is designed towards a younger age group, its extrememly easy to set up, download things, and so on. almost too easy! of course younger kids arent the only ones that would find this pen helpful, i myself am i high school student, and bought it for the purpose of downloading my notes to text. that part i use all the time. i hadnt planned on using all the other features (games, translator, journal, etc.) but find myself using them all the time! they are way more fun than i expected, and i find it hard to believe that younger kids could solve some of the games. some of them are actually quite challenging and i have yet to figure them out myself! which makes it all the more fun of course.

All the software features are very fun, and i use them all the time (especially the spanish translator pro) they have french too. all of them run very smoothly, and i have no trouble at all. my younger siblings have no trouble with them either.

Overall, this pen is amazing, and i think leapfrog has made quite a discovery with this pen. i highly recommend it, it is extremely helpful, educational, and fun! it plays Mp3’s, so whoever likes to listen to music while doing homework, it’s all set! I havent gotten bored of it (some people claim to have) and dont ever plan to. i see this as an item i would use almost as frequently as a cell phone, and much more useful! (who’s cell phone translates spanish?!) not to mention very educational.

so, bottom line? buy it! you won’t be making the wrong choice. at first, i was worried about the price, and if i would even use it. sure, it sounds cool, but…would i use it? it hasnt turned out to be a problem for me! :D
